Chock and Bates finished fourth at the 2022 Beijing Games. This is their fourth Winter Olympics and their last shot at individual gold with retirement looming.
The American pair have their biggest competition in France’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron, the latter of whom won gold at the Beijing Games with his former partner.
The rhythm dance leads into the free dance to decide the medals Wednesday night.
Chock and Bates started skating together in 2011, and started dating in 2017. They married in 2024 and now have their sights set on gold for ice dance, skating to a version of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint it Black” from “Westworld.”
