San Jose is getting ready for a very big pre-game party; starting Friday, the city will play host to two street parties that are sure to have thousands of fans moving. It will start with a performance by Grammy winner Kehlani, followed a day later by global star DJ Dom Dolla. 15,000 people are ex pected in downtown to see the big stars performing Friday and Saturday; about 100 workers and technicians will put together a stage about 70 to 80 feet wide with a light system about 60 to 70 feet high. The construction project has tied up downtown from Fourth Street to Seventh Street with lots of equipment coming in. “Think we have somewhere in the neighborhood of seven semi’s worth of equipment that came in for this event and that’s just for the production. If you see all of the rest of the stuff that’s not speakers or anything like that. It’s probably an extra three or four semi’s,” Johnny Ortiz, production manager, said. The workers won’t be done when this stage is finished because each star requires a different kind of stage. “Tomorrow night we will have Kehlani who is an RB artist, so we’re gonna have one particular set up for her that supports her back up dancers and backup singers and then we’ll have a completely different event for the next night, which is Dom Dolan, he’s the number one DJ in the world right now,” Ortiz said. The concerts will join the other ongoing events such as the block parties. San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan is pleased with how it’s all going. “We’re putting on an entire ‘fan experience’ and it’s great for folks to go to sf but they should also be able to celebrate right here in their backyard. Very close to Levi’s stadium, as you know, we want everyone to know they can fly, stay and play in San Jose,” he said. Before the headlining stars can play the stage has to be built, but NBC Bay Area was told they’re right on schedule and ready for the performers and the crowd. ...read more read less
