California gubernatorial debate draws Bay Area voters

Although most of the well-known candidates missed California’s first statewide gubernatorial debate, a Bay Area mayor got a chance to tell voters what he’s doing in San Jose.
On Tuesday night, San Francisco’s Bayview Opera House was nearly packed as seven candidates for governor talked abou
t what they’ve done for the state in the past and what it means for voters in the future.
Many of the candidates’ talking points were about affordability.
Name recognition always is key, and several candidates talked about deep roots of service in the state and taking on the Trump administration.
The lone Republic candidate, Steve Hilton, criticized what he called California’s “climate crusade” and local government for not enforcing existing policies regarding homelessness, taking direct aim at San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan.
