Bucks Co. native says he's ready to compete at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics

Andrew Heo, a speed skater from Bucks County, will compete in his second Winter Olympics.
The 22-year-old from Warrington will represent Team USA in short track speed skating.
“It is always an honor. I am always super proud to represent the US. I hope I can do my best and represent it well,
” said Heo.
Heo made his Olympic debut in 2022.
NBC10 was with his family as they watched and cheered him on from Bucks County. Family members were not allowed at the 2022 Beijing Games due to COVID restrictions.
This time, Andrew’s family will all be there in Milan, proudly cheering him on in person.
“Honestly we will be crying in tears, but definitely will be cheering for him,” said Andrew’s dad, Peter Heo.
Andrew’s journey in speed skating started when he was young, about 5 or 6 years old. His cousins introduced his family to the sport when they started training at a facility in Maryland.
It sparked Andrew’s brother’s interest, but Andrew said he did not want any part of it at first.
“I was just like – I’m still a little kid. I want to go play and eat junk food,” said Heo.
But, the coach eventually spotted Andrew roller blading for fun during his brother’s training. He saw the potential. Andrew said he eventually gave in to the peer pressure.
From that point on, Andrew’s parents started traveling from Bucks County to Maryland so the brothers could train. It was a three-hour drive. One way. They made the trek every week, multiple times a week, all while juggling school and work.
“My parents definitely are the reason why I am here,” said Heo. “It is just crazy to me the dedication, the sacrifices they had to give up for that. That is not a close drive.”
Andrew’s dad, Peter Heo, owns an auto repair business in Philadelphia.
He said there were nights when they would get back from training at about two in the morning. He would be back at work by seven the next morning.
“I had one thing in mind that I wanted to give my kids whatever opportunity I can give them,” Andrew’s dad said. “And if it takes sacrifice, I’m in it.”
Andrew said his dad is just “that kind of person.”
“He wanted to give us opportunities that he couldn’t have as a kid and so, to me, that just means the most,” said Heo. “Hearing that obviously I’m going to do my best to make him proud, make him happy.”
Andrew said that love from his family is what is fueling him on this road to Milan.
“That’s all I’m doing this for. I’m going there trying to make them happy, make them proud,” he said.
Heading into his second Olympics, Andrew said he has goals and intentions.
“I’m going there to really try my best to bring home a medal,” said Heo.
