An Indiana man has been arrested in the shooting death of a 30-year-old woman at the bar she owned in Momence along the Illinois/Indiana state line in Kankakee County. Julius E. Burkes Jr., 47, was arrested in Hammond, Indiana, on Tuesday outside his home, according to the Kankakee County sheriff's office.Courtney M. Drysdale was found dead at The Line tavern — on Illinois 114 near the Illinois/Indiana state line, about 65 miles south of Chicago — just before noon Monday, the Kankakee County sheriff's office said. Drysdale was opening the bar when Burkes allegedly entered with a gun and demanded money from the cash register before shooting her twice, the sheriff's office said."I want to commend the community at large for coming together and providing quantities of tips and information that ultimately led to this swift arrest,” Kankakee County Sheriff Mike Downey said in a statement. “This type of violent behavior has no place in our society, and I am extremely appreciative of the overwhelming support we received from the public, the media as well as our partners in the criminal justice system near and far.” Based on evidence gathered during the preliminary investigation, sheriff’s detectives had classified the incident as a homicide investigation, police said. Earlier in the day, the sheriff's office released photos of a person of interest and a white BMW that they say may have been involved in the slaying.Friends identified Drysdale as the bar owner to ABC7. Hailey Gershon, a longtime friend who also works at the bar, says Drysdale leaves behind a fiancé and a school-age daughter.“I mean it, she was probably the nicest person. I could always go to her for anything,” Gershon told ABC7. “She would literally give up the whole world for somebody and would always be there for everybody, even though if she was upset or going through things. She would push those aside for others and, like, make sure they were happy.”In a Facebook post, the bar said it would be closed until further notice "in light of tragic events."The Kankakee County coroner's office was conducting an autopsy Tuesday morning.
