A Peyton man accused of producing and distributing child pornography was sentenced to more than three decades in federal prison Monday after entering into a plea agreement.
Justin Welsh, 32, was sentenced to 35 years behind bars after he admitted guilt to one count each regarding the production a
nd distribution of child pornography, according to the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado.
Welsh is set to serve a 20-year term of supervised release after fulfilling the sentence and was ordered to pay $10,000 in fines.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Welsh came under investigation in July 2024 after an internet service provider submitted a CyberTipline report to the National Center for Missing Exploited Children.
During the investigation, law enforcement discovered that Welsh had created and distributed “sexually explicit pictures and videos” of a 3-year-old child. Welsh was also accused of distributing other content related to sexual contact with a different minor victim.
“This defendant committed horrific crimes against young people in his care. This sentence puts him exactly where he belongs for the next several decades,” stated U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado Peter McNeilly in a Monday news release.
