Marcus’ 4 a.m. Tuesday forecast
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Minor snow accumulations are possible today across central and southern Indiana.
Today:
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 AM to 7 PM for southeastern portions of the state, where we will likely have our greatest impacts
this afternoon.
This morning, look for light snow flurries, especially in the northern portions of Central Indiana. There could be some steady snow showers as we get later on in the morning, but at most, we’re likely only looking at a dusting to a half an inch of snowfall accumulation in some of the higher spots across central Indiana.
By late this morning and into the afternoon, the snow coverage will increase south of I-70, where there could be a narrow band of heavier snow showers developing. The best chance for the steady snow showers and the higher impacts will be in the far southeastern portions of Central Indiana, where roads could become slick for the afternoon hours.
For most of central Indiana, we are expecting less than an inch, and in most cases, likely less than half an inch of snowfall. In the advisory area, especially closer to Cincinnati in southeastern Indiana, we could see between 1 and 2 inches of snow.
Meanwhile, high temperatures will still be in pretty good shape, topping out in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
Tonight:
The snow will taper off tonight, and skies will gradually clear. We are going to get another surge of colder temperatures settling in back behind this front, so look for overnight temperatures to slip into the upper single digits and lower teens.
Cold mid-week:
We will remain cold for the middle of the week with dry conditions on Wednesday and Thursday and high temperatures only into the middle 20s.
We also will see an isolated low snow chance late Thursday night into early Friday morning with very little, if any, accumulation expected, and right now the snow looks to be mainly confined to northeastern portions of central Indiana.
7 day forecast:
The weekend also looks cold, with temperatures running about 10° below average for this time of year.
Extended outlook:
I do have signs of optimism heading into next week, as temperatures will try to warm a little more. We will begin the week with highs in the low 30s on Monday, and we have seen some signs that we could jump into the upper 30s and lower 40s by the middle of next week.
The 8- to 14-day outlook, which takes us to the middle of the month, also is advertising warmer than normal temperatures for this time of year, suggesting that we could be in the midst of a pattern flip in the next 10 to 14 days.
