An Escape to Italy Sits on the Edge of the Union Market District
Feb 02, 2026
Nestled on the ground floor of a glossy apartment complex on the outskirts of the jam-packed Union Market district, Italian restaurant Tarì Trattoria soars when it comes to homemade pastas, glistening fish crudo, and chic seaside vibes. The landlocked setup comes from Francesco Amodeo, fou
nder of D.C.’s acclaimed amari producer Don Cicco Figli.
The modernized Amalfi Coast recipes at Tarì all hail from Amodeo’s childhood in the scenic small town of Furore. He is also influenced by restaurant kitchens across the balance of Southern Italy.
What to order
A Sardinian fregola salad is a gorgeous green compilation of pickled mussels, roasted pepper puree, fennel pollen, and cilantro gremolada ($16).
Keep the bread baskets of its herb-alicious focaccia coming ($7), with olive oil poured from pretty ceramic pots imported from Italy.
A generous portion of dry-aged fish crudo beautifully balances atop burrata, sliced heirloom tomato, and tonnato sauce in the Amalfi Antica starter ($21).
Find four fresh pastas at any given time ($25 and up), with bowls spotlighting everything from twisty Calabrese fusilli to PEI mussels to veal ragu.
The vibe
A curved bar showing off the owner’s vast line of bottled amaro is where the neighborhood regulars like to perch, joined by comfy date-night nooks and an upbeat playlist.
Glazed sculptures resembling spiky sea anemones were (carefully) shipped from Italy and contribute bright pops of color to the wood-paneled dining room.
Insider tip
Espresso martinis spiked with reposado tequila seem to be the move these days, and Tari’s frothy take is no different. Any drink stirred by its talented bartender and Left Door alum Ulf Andreas Ekholm will do, however. See: a striking Opalite Spritz engineered with edible gold ($15).
