Pittsford grad Isa Antonetti, Eastman faculty and alumni take home Grammy Awards

Among this year’s winners at the 68th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 1 were Pittsford-Mendon graduate Isa Antonetti and several Eastman
School of Music faculty and alumni.
Antonetti is the daughter of Victor Antonetti Jr. (a 2025 CITY Rochester Ten), and performed with her father’s Latin band, Orquesta Antonetti, as a teenager before graduating from Pittsford-Mendon High School and attending Carnegie Mellon for musical theater. In her Broadway debut, she plays the role of young Cuban singer Omara in “Buena Vista Social Club,” which beat out other popular nominees “Maybe Happy Ending,” “Death Becomes Her,” “Gypsy” and “Just in Time” to win Best Musical Theater Album.
Two faculty members and numerous graduates of the University of Rochester’s Eastman School of Music also took home awards:
Best Classical Solo Vocal Album: “Telemann: Ino – Opera Arias for Soprano” | Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra with conductor Paul O’Dette, professor of lute
Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals: “Big Fish” | Nate Smith säje including vocalist and arranger Sara Gazarek, associate professor of jazz voice
Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance: Donnacha Dennehy, “Land Of Winter” | Alarm Will Sound including Alan Pierson ’06E (DMA), artistic director and conductor
Best Engineered Album, Classical: Christopher Cerrone, “Don’t Look Down” | Sandbox Percussion including Jonathan Allen ’11E, percussion
Best Opera Recording: Jake Heggie,”Intelligence” (world premiere recording) | Libretto by Gene Scheer ’81E, ’82E (MM)
Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella: “Super Mario Praise Break” | Performed by The 8-Bit Big Band including Jared Schonig ’05E, drums
Best Orchestral Performance: Olivier Messiaen, “Turangalîla-Symphonie” | Boston Symphony Orchestra including Christine Lee ’15E (MM), cello; Thomas Martin ’83E, clarinet
