Feb. 1 | Evening forecast with Meteorologist Drew Narsutis TONIGHT Clouds increase with a chance for light snow late, mainly toward and after midnight. Lows fall into the low teens downtown, with a south wind around 5 mph. Any snow will be light, but in this kind of cold it sticks fast an d can create a quick glaze of slick travel on untreated roads and sidewalks, especially bridges and ramps.  TOMORROW Mostly cloudy with a few lingering flurries or a brief light snow shower early, then quieter later in the day. Highs reach the upper 20s to near 30, with a south southwest wind around 5 to 10 mph. Even if totals stay minor, the impact is higher because salt works slowly in the cold, so slushy spots refreeze easily and black ice can linger on neighborhood streets and parking lots.  TOMORROW NIGHT Mostly cloudy and still very cold with lows in the upper teens to near 20. Winds turn west southwest around 5 mph, becoming light at times. Refreeze is the main story again, so any melted snow from daytime treatment can turn slick by daybreak.  TUESDAY Another chance for light snow at times, favoring the first half of the day. Highs stay in the upper 20s, with winds becoming north around 5 mph. The likely outcome is more nuisance snow, but even a light coating can make the Tuesday commute slower where packed snow is already in place.  TUESDAY NIGHT Mostly cloudy with lows in the low teens and a north wind around 5 mph. Roads that look merely wet can still hide black ice, especially where melting occurred near intersections and parking lot entrances.  WEDNESDAY Partly sunny but not warmer, with highs in the low 20s and a north northeast wind around 5 mph. Any improvement comes from sunshine and traffic, not temperature, so shaded sidewalks and side streets remain icy.  WEDNESDAY NIGHT Mostly cloudy with lows in the single digits and light wind around 5 mph or less. The extreme cold keeps frostbite risk elevated with prolonged exposure and it also means any moisture left on pavement freezes solid.  THURSDAY Partly sunny and still cold, highs in the mid to upper 20s with a southwest wind around 5 to 10 mph. Travel is generally manageable on treated roads, but the bigger issue is the buildup of compacted snow and ice that does not fully clear, especially on sidewalks and in neighborhoods.  THURSDAY NIGHT Clouds thicken with another late snow chance. Lows dip into the upper teens, with a south southwest wind around 10 mph and occasional higher gusts. Any late-night snow adds another thin layer on top of old ice, so expect slick spots to redevelop for early Friday.  7 DAY FORECAST The pattern stays locked in with below normal temperatures likely persisting well into mid February, so every small snow chance matters more than usual because melting is limited and refreeze is frequent. Light snow opportunities show up late Sunday night into Monday morning, again Tuesday, then another late week system Thursday night into Friday with additional light accumulation potential. ...read more read less
