Trevor Noah takes shot at Nicki Minaj, Trump in Grammys opening monologue
Feb 01, 2026
The 68th Grammy Awards opened with host Trevor Noah delivering a monologue that included jabs at President Trump and Nicki Minaj.
As the host moved through the star-studded audience to acknowledge the A-listers in attendance, the comedian paused to note that Minaj was absent from the room.
“Nicki
Minaj is not here. She is not here,” he said, stopping for a few seconds as the crowd erupted into applause. “She is still at the White House with Donald Trump discussing very important issues.”
The host then impersonated the president telling the rapper, “Actually Nicki, I have the biggest ass. Everybody’s saying it, Nicki. I know they say it’s you, but it’s me.”
Trump and Minaj spent considerable time together last week, with Minaj showing her support at the Trump Accounts Summit on Wednesday, where she held hands with the president and called herself his “No. 1 fan.”

The following day, the Grammy winner made a surprise appearance at the premiere of Melania Trump’s new documentary. At the event, hosted at the recently renamed Trump-Kennedy Center, Minaj hobnobbed with the likes of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel.
The appearances reflected the rapper’s recent outspoken support for the Trump administration, which has lost her fans in the process. On Wednesday, she addressed the backlash she’s faced, saying she doesn’t care how critics view her.
“The hate — or what people have to say — it does not affect me at all,” she told the audience at the Trump Accounts Summit. “It actually motivates me to support him more. And it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more.”
Noah apparently couldn’t resist calling out the unlikely friendship amid the Trump administration’s brutal crackdown on immigration. Minaj herself is a immigrant from Trinidad and Tobago, who has said she came to the U.S. illegally as a child.
Noah, who has led the Grammy Awards six consecutive times since 2021, has typically kept overt politics out of his hosting duties, though he’s had a few zingers for the president in the past.
Reacting to Bad Bunny’s sizzling opening number in 2023, Noah raved: “Absolutely incredible! You know, every time I listen to him, I get hips I never knew I had. It even makes Trump want to learn Spanish.”

Noah also took a swing at the president in his 2025 monologue, roughly two weeks after Trump took office for the second time.
“There’s been a few changes in Washington so I’m going to enjoy tonight, because it may be my last time I get to host anything in this country,” the comedian quipped.
