A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department sergeant died of cancer Sunday, Feb. 1, the department announced.
Sgt. Grant Ward, who also served as president of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Employees’ Benefits Association (SEBA), died “after a long and courageous battle with cancer,”
surrounded by family, including his wife and two daughters, the Sheriff’s Department said.
“Even during the most difficult treatments, Grant’s spirit never wavered,” the Sheriff’s Department said on X. “He faced each challenge with faith and determination, reminding us all that laughter can bring light to even the darkest days.”
Sheriff Shannon Dicus said Ward was positive, focused more on others than himself and “the epitome of servant leadership.”
“He put others first,” Dicus wrote on X, “lifting the people around him and spreading joy everywhere he went.”
The union said that Ward was a dedicated sergeant, husband, father and president, who advocated for his fellow employees and treated them like family.
SEBA said that condolences can be sent to their office at 1998 Orange Tree Ln., Redlands, CA or the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at 655. E. Third St., San Bernardino, CA.
