Letters: Justice Bedsworth sounds the alarm on federal abuses
Feb 01, 2026
All Americans should be worried with Noem in charge of DHS
Thank you for finding the eminently qualified William Bedsworth to educate us in his commentary on abuses of the Fourth Amendment by ICE agents, who have been breaking into homes of citizens and non-citizens alike in their unrestrained quest
to bully anyone they please.
I thought it especially egregious when federal agents broke down the door of 67-year-old American citizen Rodrick Johnson in Chicago and restrained him in zip ties as they hauled him off without justification. This can happen to any of us.
We should all be frightened that we are being led by amateurs like Kristi Noem and policed by untrained agents who are given no bounds and protected by lies from the top.
Bob Horvath, Long Beach
Bedsworth is right, these violations aren’t a close call
A shout-out and a thank you to Justice Bedsworth for his frank and accurate article about the constitutional abuses being carried out ICE and Homeland Security officers.
Every American should read it.
My time as a public defender overlapped with Bedsworth‘s time as a prosecutor, trial judge, and appellate justice. In fact, I had a murder trial in his courtroom when he was on the superior court bench. He knows the law.
As he states in the article, these constitutional violations are “not even a close call”
Any second year law school student knows this. If citizens of this country don’t speak out about these flagrant abuses of search and seizure law, we will all regret it.
Tim Severin, La Palma
