NEW YORK — It may have taken until the last day of January, but the Princeton men’s basketball team finally has a victory away from Old Nassau. Jack Stanton knocked down a career-best six 3-pointers on his way to 21 points, Jackson Hicke added 18 an the Tigers beat Columbia, 80-68, on Saturday n ight at Levien Gymnasium. Princeton (8-14, 4-3) not only bounced back from Friday night’s 23-point defeat at Cornell, but secured a road victory after dropping their first 13 contests away rom Jadwin Gymansim. It was also the Tigers’ 13th straight victory over the Lions. Malik Abdullahi finished with 15 points and Landon Clark scored 11 to give Princeton four in double figures. Dalen Davis played just 14 minutes after he tweaked the ankle injury that cost him nine games during the non-conference portion of the schedule. Kenny Noland paced Columbia (14-7, 3-4) with 20 points. USC 78, Rutgers 75 LOS ANGELES — Ezra Ausar scored 21 points, Jacob Cofie had a double-double and Southern California held off Rutgers. Rutgers never led after scoring the opening bucket and trailed by as many as 19 points early in the second half. With 2:23 to play, Tariq Francis sparked an 11-2 surge for the Scarlet Knights that capped the scoring with 36 seconds left. Francis scored nine points during the stretch. Chad Baker-Mazara missed a jumper for USC with five seconds to go but then forced a turnover to end it. Baker-Mazara finished with 17 points for USC (16-6, 5-6). Cofie scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Francis scored 26 points to lead Rutgers (9-13, 2-9), which has lost five straight. Dylan Grant added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Trojans started with an 18-6 run and built a 40-30 halftime lead. Cofie scored 12 points and Ausar added nine in the first half for the Trojans. Grant and Francis each scored nine first-half points for the Scarlet Knights. USC had its largest lead, 56-37, with 14:37 to play. Seton Hall 69, Marquette 64 NEWARK — Adam Clark’s 19 points helped Seton Hall defeat Marquette. Clark also contributed six assists for the Pirates (16-6, 6-5). A.J. Staton-McCray scored 11 points while shooting 4 for 9, including 3 for 4 from beyond the arc. Stephon Payne III shot 4 of 6 from the field to finish with nine points and grabbed nine rebounds. Tajuan Simpkins also scored nine points. Royce Parham finished with 17 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks for the Golden Eagles (8-15, 3-9). Marquette also got 16 points, six rebounds and two steals from Nigel James Jr. Ben Gold finished with 10 points. Staton-McCray scored eight points in the first half and Seton Hall went into the break trailing 41-33. Clark’s 15-point second half helped Seton Hall finish off the five-point victory. TCNJ 85, Ramapo 59 MAHWAH — Nick Koch continued to climb the program’s scoring charter after pouring in 27 points and leading the Lions (15-5, 10-3) to a fifth straight victory as they pulled away from the Roadrunners (5-15, 4-9). Matthew Solomon added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for TCNJ, which outscore Ramapo, 57-35, in the second half. Women’s Basketball Princeton 72, Cornell 61 PRINCETON — Skye Belker and Olivia Hutcherson scored 20 points apiece, and No. 19 Princeton pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Cornell. Princeton opened the final quarter on a 10-2 surge for a 58-48 advantage with 7:17 remaining. Ashley Chea’s 3-pointer later stretched the Tigers’ advantage to 65-53 with 4:44 to play. Belker made a 3-pointer and scored eight points in the fourth quarter, and Hutcherson chipped in with two layups. Chea finished with 11 points for Princeton (18-2, 6-1), which rebounded from a 73-67 loss to Columbia on Friday that ended the Tigers’ 15-game win streak. Rachel Kaus scored 20 points, and Emily Pape added 14 for Cornell (8-12, 3-4). Clarke Jackson scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Princeton shot 51% (29 of 57) overall and hit 43% (9 of 21) from 3-point range, while Cornell shot 52% (25 of 48) and 44% (7 of 16) from distance, but the Tigers scored 19 points off 13 Big Red turnovers. Princeton had just five turnovers. Madison St. Rose did not play after she tweaked her left knee on Friday night. TCNJ 83, Ramapo 47 MAHWAH — Amanda Baylock led a balanced offensive effort with 13 points and the Lions (11-9, 10-3) rolled the Roadrunners (7-13, 2-11). Maddie Bernhart finished with 12 points, Brooke McFadden and Riley Ahrens added 11 each and Grace Kowalski had 10 to give TCNJ five in double figures. Men’s Lacrosse Rutgers 11, Jacksonville 10 NAPLES, Fla. — Colin Kelly scored with 2:43 left in overtime and the 18th-ranked Scarlet Knights (1-0) edged the Dolphins (0-1) in the season opener.
