The OneOhio Recovery Foundation has launched the latest statewide round of opioid settlement grant funding, awarding up to $45.7 million to support prevention, treatment, and recovery efforts across Ohio, state Rep. Jamie Callender, R-Concord Township, recently announced. Regional Grant Cycle 2 invi tes organizations working to address substance use disorders to prepare for the Funding Inquiry window, which opened earlier this month. According to the foundation, this round of funding “advances the momentum of the first grant cycle,” which distributed more than $45 million to over 240 locally driven projects across 19 designated regions, including $300,000 to Lake-Geauga Recovery Centers. Those grants supported youth prevention, school-based mental health programs, recovery housing, treatment expansion, post-overdose outreach and workforce initiatives in the behavioral health field. During the first grant cycle, Region 13 — made up of Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake and Portage counties — received $2,257,352.64 in funding across 12 projects. Calendar noted that Region 13 will receive $2,157,104 to disperse for the second grant cycle, with the application window currently open through Feb. 11. He added that the “wounds caused by the opioid epidemic remain visible” across numerous communities in Northeast Ohio. “While we cannot bring back those lost to the epidemic, we can assist those currently suffering through addiction get their lives back on track and prevent future losses to addiction.” The OneOhio Recovery Foundation is a private, nonprofit charitable organization created at the direction of state and local officials to allocate 55 percent of the funds the state will receive from the pharmaceutical industry as part of the agreed-upon distributor settlement stemming from the national opioid epidemic. The OneOhio is led by an executive director and governed by a 29-member board, including 19 members selected by regional groups that partner with the foundation in identifying organizations to receive funds.
