RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Virginia State Police is urging drivers to once again stay off the roads this weekend as troopers have responded to 88 crashes across the commonwealth amid the second winter storm of the year. Light snow is set to develop south to north in Virginia beginning Saturday, Jan. 31. Some regions along the Virginia and North Carolina line could see as much as 4 to 8 inches of snow, our StormTracker8 team forecasted. As of 9 a.m. Saturday, police reported six injuries and two deaths out of the total 88 crashes. Central Virginia recorded 10 crashes in total, with one injury and one fatality. Though not all crashes have been confirmed to be storm-related, police said icy roads from last weekend's storm are still causing hazardous travel. Virginia State Police said as crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) work to clear primary, secondary and subdivision roads, drivers should stay off the roads on Saturday and Sunday. If you must drive, police said to clear your car of all ice and snow before driving and give VDOT crews and trucks room to do their job.
