Fire crews battled an early Saturday morning fire at an apartment building in North Philadelphia. According to the Philadelphia Fire Department, crews responded to a four-story apartment building just before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, in the 4100 block of North Broad Street after receivin g reports of a fire. Officials said when the first initial crews arrived on scene, they found fire coming from the third floor of the building. While battling the blaze, officials said firefighting operations were complicated due to the freezing temperatures and wind. Salt and sand trucks were also called to the scene due to the amount of ice from the water. At one point, the fire had even caused the fourth floor to partially collapse, according to officials. The fire was placed under control just before 11 a.m. Officials shared that two people, including a firefighter, were injured. Both are in stable condition. A witness told NBC10 that they saw several people who were able to get out of the house as it went up in flames. According to officials, a SEPTA bus was called to the site to serve as a warming space for responders or residents who needed it. It is unclear at this time what caused the fire.
