A man is fighting for his life after being shot in the chest on Friday night, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Officers were called to the intersection of Wayne and Chelten avenues in the Germantown section of the city around 6:48 p.m. on Jan. 30 for reports of a person shot and
someone with a gun, Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace told NBC10.
When they got to the scene, they reported finding an adult male in front of a Cricket Mobile store suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest, Inspector Pace said.
The officers took him to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical condition and was taken for surgery, Pace explained.
Investigators learned that the man was actually shot one block away near the 100 block of West Chelten Avenue by a woman, according to Pace. The woman was with another woman when the shooting happened.
There are additional resources for people or communities that have endured gun violence in Philadelphia. Further information can be found here.
The man then ran away before he collapsed out front of the Cricket store, Pace said.
Pace told NBC10 that there is still a lot that the investigators do not know yet, including the identity of the victim or how many shots were fired.
This is a developing story. Check back here for updates.
