FRANKLIN, Ind. (WISH) — A 22-year-old man from Avon, Indiana, was sentenced to three years in state prison for stalking, according to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office. On Thursday, Caleb Matthys, 22, of Avon, was sentenced after pleading guilty to stalking, a level 5 felony, conspir acy to commit arson, a level 6 felony, and invasion of privacy, a misdemeanor. Johnson County Superior Court Judge Brandi Foster Kirkendall sentenced Matthys to three years in state prison. Matthys had previously been released on bond for similar offenses in Hamilton County when he was arrested in Johnson County. In the early morning hours of June 29, 2025, officers with the Greenwood Police Department responded to a call regarding a disturbance. Ryan Mitchell reported his home security cameras alerted him to someone outside. Mitchell went outside and found Matthys in the driveway near Taylor Harrington’s vehicle. Upon being approached by Mitchell, Matthys took off and ran through the apartment complex before being detained by Greenwood officers. When asked what he was doing in the area, Matthys said he was there, along with Hunter Harrington, with the intention of blowing up Harrington’s ex-wife’s vehicle. Matthys admitted to having a backpack with flammable items and a gas can that he tossed when he ran. A no-contact order had previously been issued in Hamilton County, preventing Matthys from having contact with Harrington’s ex-wife. During sentencing, the court highlighted that Matthys was on bond for similar offenses at the time these acts were committed and the serious nature of the crimes he was pleading guilty to as aggravating factors. Kirkendall further stated that the victim would have lasting effects as a result of his actions. The court acknowledged that for Matthys to serve his sentence anywhere other than in prison would depreciate the seriousness of the offenses. “I commend our courageous victim who came forward to say enough is enough,” said Johnson County Prosecutor Lance Hamner. “She was very pleased with the tough sentence handed down by our Superior Court judge, as are we.
