INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Snow-covered streets are making it tough for many Indianapolis neighborhoods, but the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) says if your road hasn’t been cleared, you’re not out of options.
“They’re reall
y, really bad,” said Tyler McAnalley, an Indianapolis resident. “I wasn’t able to leave my neighborhood for three days after the snowstorm. It doesn’t look much better right now to be honest. So, I think the city can do a lot better.”
McAnalley says getting out of his home is still difficult with the addition of icy sidewalks. He’s seen cars get stuck on his road.
“I think that they can put more time and effort into clearing the neighborhoods,” McAnalley said. “The main roads could be okay, but the side roads can be awful. It doesn’t matter if the main roads are okay if we can’t even get out of our neighborhood.
Indy DPW officials say contractors are done with clearing their assignments, but Indy DPW is taking over and will finish the remaining missed residential areas.
Tina Beverley, a travel nurse who is staying in Indianapolis for a few months, says she hasn’t been out all week.
“I haven’t, as you can see,” Beverley said. “I’ve just kind of let it pile up and let it do it’s thing.”
Thousands of smaller street segments across various townships are in the county. Indy DPW is still sorting through reports via the Mayor’s Action Center and Request Indy, an online service request platform for people who live in Indianapolis.
Indy DPW officials say, so far, there are dozens of requests for snow removal. Indy DPW officials say it will be helpful if people send pictures attached to their requests to help the process.
“They keep up with it the best they can, I’m sure,” Beverley said. “I mean, this all hit in a 24-hour period. I used to live in Boston. So, I know what this stuff is like.”
