Air Force hockey put on a show for the home crowd at Cadet Ice Arena on Friday, courtesy of the underclassmen. Freshmen and sophomores combined for five goals in the contest, none more important than freshman left wing Cole Christian’s, which was the game-winning goal as the Falcons beat visiti ng Sacred Heart University 5-2. Christian’s third tally of the season came at 1:54 of the third period. His game-winner came off an impactful second period from sophomore left wing Will Dawson, who scored twice for the home team. First, he beat Sacred Heart goalie Teagan Kendrick at 6:40.  After a power-play goal from Pioneers forward Reid Pabich, the sophomore out of Traverse City, Mich. tied the game again, scoring with mere fractions of a second remaining in the middle frame.  Fighting to regain the lead late in the third, Sacred Heart pulled Kendrick for an extra skater, but sophomore center Nick Sajevic put the game out of reach with an empty-netter with 48 seconds remaining. Freshman right wing Charles Panchisin added another goal for good measure following Sajevic’s score. He netted an even-strength goal at 19:52 of the final frame.  The game began in the visitors’ favor. Air Force fell behind early as Sacred Heart forward Felix Trudeau scored at the 1:56 mark of the first period.  Falcons junior goalie Dominik Wasik made 28 stops as Air Force outshot the Pioneers 43-30.  The teams will conclude the series on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. ...read more read less
