The mayor of Harvey, Christopher Clark, has died in the predawn hours Friday at a Chicago hospital, officials confirmed. "The City of Harvey is deeply saddened to confirm the passing of Mayor Christopher J. Clark. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Mayor’s family, loved ones, and all memb ers of the Harvey community during this difficult time," city officials said in a statement.Clark's age couldn't be confirmed.“My heart is definitely saddened,” said 5th District Cook County Commissioner Dr. Kisha E. McCaskill, who had known Clark for about 15 years. They both grew up in Harvey. “He was being the best leader that he knew how to be,’’ McCaskill said. “It’s still shocking.”Sean Howard, a spokesperson for several south suburbs, said Clark, who was a father and grandfather, died at a Chicago hospital either late Thursday or early Friday. Howard and McCaskill said they did not know the cause of Clark's death, though Howard said Clark missed the last city council meeting about two weeks ago and he had been under "tremendous stress."“It was a big meeting given the town was going into receivership,” Howard said, adding Harvey was in "enormous turmoil."Clark had been the mayor for the last six years.
