ALLENTOWN — For the first time in program history, the Allentown boys basketball team is a division champion. Frank Varricchio scored 24 points, Nick Pless added 11, and the Redbirds completed a 6-0 run in the CVC’s Valley Division with a 62-54 win Thursday night against Princeton Day School. Al lentown (9-8) rallied after trailing by 14 points at halftime and outscored PDS (5-10) in the fourth quarter, 21-6. Allentown has already surpassed its win total from last season (six) and is searching for its first winning record since finishing 7-5 in the COVID-shortened season of 2020-21. The Redbirds’ best season under seventh-year head coach Walter Kelly came in 2019-20 (21-7).
