A woman who is suspected of playing a role in a fatal shooting in Oceanside three years ago was arrested in Tijuana and returned to the U.S., authorities said. Aarin “Angel” Sorenson, 50, is among four people charged in connection with the death of Jacob Sanders, who was found dead in the San Lu is Rey riverbed near Benet Road and Highway 76 on Dec. 26, 2022. She was the only one who had not been arrested. Sorenson was booked into Las Colinas Detention Facility on Thursday and remains jailed without bail, jail records indicate. Baja California officials said they arrested on Tuesday a woman they identified partially as Aarin Marie, a 50-year-old Canadian citizen. The last names of people arrested in Mexico are typically not released publicly until their cases have been resolved. Officials said in a press release that she was “a fugitive who entered Mexican territory to evade justice in the United States.” The woman reportedly was in possession of methamphetamine when state police arrested her. U.S. Marshals officials said in a news release that Mexican authorities transferred Sorenson into their custody at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Oceanside police detectives have previously said the investigation indicated Sanders was fatally shot after a fight with a group of people in an area with a cluster of homeless encampments. The area was so large that it took nearly two weeks to locate Sanders’ body after the shooting was reported. Three people were arrested in the weeks following the shooting, but Sorenson remained at large until she was arrested this week. One of the three co-defendants, Jerome Apisaroma Saolotoga, pleaded guilty to an unidentified charge and was sentenced in April 2024 to six years in prison. A jury found co-defendant Christopher Hendrick guilty of murder and he was sentenced last year to 25 years to life in prison. Co-defendant James Lawrence Pittman died early last year nearly two weeks after falling from a top bunk in the Vista Detention Facility and sustaining a head injury. His death was classified as an accident. Sorenson is slated to be arraigned Friday in Vista Superior Court. ...read more read less
