Firefighters contained a two-alarm warehouse fire early Thursday morning in San Francisco’s Bayview District that drew more than 70 firefighters to the scene. The San Francisco Fire Department said crews were headed to a reported trash fire at 2:54 a.m. when a community member flagged them down to report a possible warehouse fire in the 2400 block of Ingalls Street. Firefighters quickly found smoke coming from the roof of a large industrial warehouse and declared a one-alarm structure fire. The blaze escalated to a two-alarm response as crews encountered heavy smoke and fire conditions. Firefighters faced tight access and other challenges due to the warehouse’s confined location and the presence of large amounts of recycled building materials inside, the department said. An attached side building with a second floor — believed to include living quarters, shared common areas and kitchen facilities — was where much of the fire was located. Crews worked aggressively for more than an hour and were able to contain it by 4:02 a.m, according to the department. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed. ...read more read less
