NEW HAVEN, Ind. — New Haven Mayor Steve McMichael has been appointed to serve on the National League of Cities’ (NLC) 2026 Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee Federal Advocacy Committee, according to an announcement from NLC President Kevin Kramer.
Mayor McMichael was elected to
a one-year term and will help provide strategic direction and guidance for NLC’s federal advocacy agenda and policy priorities. The committee focuses on improving local access to federal transportation programs, including funding and policy related to roads, safety initiatives, transit systems, rail, bridges and other infrastructure needs.
“I look forward to another year of participating and providing strong advocacy for transportation solutions, particularly rail issues, highlighting challenges communities like New Haven face. I have been honored to not only be a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee the past several years, but to be a featured voice when it comes to rail issues on the national stage,” said Mayor McMichael. “Our leaders in Washington need to hear from New Haven and other cities across the country on this issue. Serving on the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee gives New Haven the opportunity to be heard on the national stage.”
McMichael said the appointment allows New Haven to have a stronger voice in national discussions that directly affect local communities.
As a member of the committee, McMichael will help shape NLC’s federal policy positions and advocate on behalf of America’s cities, towns and villages before Congress, the presidential administration and at the local level in New Haven.
“The National League of Cities’ federal advocacy committees are the voice of America’s 19,000 cities, towns and villages to leaders in Washington,” said National League of Cities President Kevin Kramer, Councilmember, Louisville, Kentucky. “I am thrilled to work with Mayor McMichael and look forward to supporting their goals and ideas as they serve on the Transportation and Infrastructure Services Committee this year, helping to strengthen the partnership between local and federal leaders.”
