Jan 29, 2026
KERSHAW COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO)– KCSO says a 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with multiple incidents that happened in Elgin.
Michael D. Branham of Columbia was arrested in connection with multiple incidents in and around Elgin Estates involving the malicious placement of for
eign objects on roadways.
Branham is accused of placing screws and nails in roadways.
Investigators say the investigation spanned nearly three months and involved extensive surveillance, camera monitoring, and the use of advanced investigative tools and tactics.
Progress in the case was made after a community meeting held on January 20 at the Elgin Community Center, where residents provided key information that helped investigators with the case.
“We are better when we work together. This was a major case that placed significant stress on our community and our deputies. Engaging our citizens proved absolutely beneficial. This case is a perfect example of how crimes can be solved through community involvement,” says Sheriff Lee Boan.
He was arrested Tuesday morning, Jan. 27, 2026, at his job site by Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office with the help of the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and SLED’s Fugitive Apprehension Team.
He was charged with stalking, breach of peace – high aggravated nature, and malicious injury to property.
Also, he’s currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center, and his bond hearing is Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at 5 p.m.
