FORT WAYNE, IND. (WOWO) Fort Wayne Community Schools is addressing concerns raised by social media posts claiming federal immigration enforcement will soon take place at local schools. In a letter sent to families Wednesday, district leaders said they are aware of rumors suggesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents would be coming to FWCS buildings in early February. The district said it has no reason to believe those claims are true, according to reporting from WPTA’s 21Alive. FWCS officials said the district works regularly with state and local law enforcement agencies and would notify staff and families immediately if circumstances changed. The letter also stated that no FWCS employee will assist with immigration enforcement activities as part of their job duties. District leaders emphasized their commitment to maintaining a safe and welcoming learning environment for all students, regardless of immigration status. They also said the district does not share students’ or parents’ immigration information. Families seeking additional resources were directed to the district’s Family Assistance page, which is available in multiple languages. FWCS said it will continue to follow established safety protocols, district policy, and state and federal laws.
