In this weekly feature, we’re celebrating the best of Colorado Springs’ food scene ー as determined by voters in The Gazette’s annual Best of the Springs (thebestofthesprings.com). We’ll throw in our own recommendation, too. Up this week: burgers.  Gold: Skirted Heifer A deserving top spot for the burger that you can truly only find in Colorado Springs. If you’ve been around long enough, you know the drill: The cheese drapes over the burger, forming a skirt that’s gooey in the center, crispy on the edges. 204 N. Tejon St., 5935 Dublin Blvd. Silver: Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar  Locals love the chain so much that one wonders if Bad Daddy’s has thought about a second location in town. But loyal patrons probably like to think of it as their one special place, complete with craft beer that goes best with the so-called “totally insane” burgers. 1765 Briargate Parkway Bronze: In-N-Out Burger The California classic debuted in Colorado Springs in 2020 with an hours-long wait for eager customers whose cars lined up and down Interquest Parkway. Clearly, people here like a good burger at a good price. 1840 Democracy Point, 2895 New Center Point Road, 495 Garden of the Gods Road Our recommendation: The Green Line Grill, Brakeman’s Smash’d Burger Bar Best of the Springs voters picked two chains, so we’ll pick two local spots. Want a good burger at a good price? Hit Green Line, the downtown hole-in-the-wall (230 Pueblo Av.) specializing in the “onion-fried” burger. Elsewhere downtown, it’s hard to beat the smashed burger at Brakeman’s ー and even harder to beat the vibe inside the historic train depot (10 S. Sierra Madre St.).
