A resident was hospitalized following a fire Tuesday night at a home in St. Charles, according to the St. Charles Fire Department.
At around 10:46 p.m. on Tuesday, the fire department responded to a report of a fire in the first block of North Avenue, according to a news release from the department.
The fire had been reported by a resident who was home at the time.
Upon arrival, personnel from the fire department forced entry into the home via an exterior staircase leading to a second floor exterior door, the news release said, finding moderate smoke conditions on the second floor.
Responding personnel began a search for victims and found the resident on the second floor, the department said. The resident was assisted out of the structure and moved to an ambulance on the scene for treatment, and was later taken to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva for non-life-threatening injuries.
No updates on the individual’s condition were available as of early Wednesday afternoon, according to St. Charles Fire Department Battalion Chief Dave Chmelar.
Crews ultimately extinguished the fire in about 15 minutes, per the news release. The fire was confined to the contents on the second floor and did not extend into the structure. Crews remained on scene conducting a fire investigation until just after midnight, the release said.
The department was assisted by the fire departments from Geneva, Batavia, Elburn, West Chicago, North Aurora and Fermilab, the release said, as well as by the St. Charles Police Department and St. Charles Emergency Management Agency.
