Cavs star Evan Mobley sidelined with left calf injury again
Jan 27, 2026
That pesky left calf is forcing Cavaliers forward Evan Mobley to watch games wearing street clothes for the second time in a span of six weeks.
The Cavs on Jan. 27 announced Mobley suffered a left calf strain Jan. 26 in a 114-98 victory over the Magic. Mobley is expected to miss one to three weeks,
according to the news release announcing the injury. He played 25 minutes, scored 20 points and totaled nine rebounds in 35 minutes in the romp over the Magic.
Mobley, 24, is in his fifth season with the Cavs. The reigning Defensive Player of the Year suffered a Grade 1 left calf strain Dec. 12 in a game with the Wizards. The news release on the December injury projected he would miss two-to-four weeks, but he returned in time to play 25 minutes and score 14 points in a Christmas Day game against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden. He played in 17 consecutive games since the December calf injury.
The Cavs have won four straight, beating the Hornets (currently 19-28), Kings (12-35) and Magic (23-22) twice during the streak. They are 28-20 and in fifth place in the East. Their recent surge matches a four-game winning streak that began on Nov. 2 and ended on Nov. 10. During that streak they beat the Hawks, Sixers, Wizards and Bulls.
In addition to being without Mobley, the Cavs are also expected to be without All-Star guard Darius Garland when they meet the Lakers in their only appearance at Rocket Arena this season. Garland is recovering from a sprained right big toe. He missed each of the last six games with the injury. The Cavs are 5-1 during the stretch.
Max Strus is still recovering from August foot surgery. He is expected to return in early February.
