CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) leadership stood side-by-side on Monday, continuing to remind Virginians about slick and icy roads after a weekend winter storm. As of Monday, Jan. 26, black ice and slippery conditions m ay remain on interstates, highways and side streets for the next several days. Until further notice, VDOT crews are working 24 hours a day in 12-hour shifts to reduce the possibility of any issues on the road. VDOT Richmond District Engineer Dale Totten told 8News that those crew members in plows and salt trucks may hit the rest of the Greater Richmond and Tri-City neighborhoods on Tuesday, Jan. 27, if they have not already. During Monday's press conference, Totten explained VDOT's goal of touching every road in the Richmond District within 48 hours of the storm's end. "VDOT is going to be hard at work, working to make sure that we continue to have safe roads," she said. "Certainly, if someone can stay off the roads, please, please stay off the roads, particularly at night and particularly as we see temperatures continue to be cold. Be very, very careful." 8News also asked Spanberger about how the Commonwealth was using FEMA resources, requested by the governor and approved by President Donald Trump.
