In the Bay Area, people continue to gather and speak out after the fatal shooting Saturday by federal agents in Minneapolis. Sunday in San Rafael, Danielle Stood alongside others, carrying a sign with a picture of Alex Pretti, the man shot and killed in Minneapolis by federal officers Saturday. “Just absolutely appalled and especially to see that he was an ICU nurse someone who devoted their life to helping others,” she said. Protests popped up across the country again this weekend in the wake of his death. “I think it’s important for people to speak out in the name of democracy and injustice for justice,” she said. “I’m outraged by what’s going on in our country.” Nearby people walked with more signs. One organizer of the demonstration near the Farmer’s Market said a larger group gathered near there on Sunday, and it’s not the first time. Miles away in Minnesota, Governor Tim Walz and Border Patrol Commander At Large Gregory Bovino held dueling news conferences. “We believe in law and order in this state, we believe in peace, and we believe that Donald Trump needs to pull these 3,000 untrained agents out of Minnesota before they kill another person and we’re up here telling another story of a Minnesotan just trying to live their life without the interference,” Walz said. “Our title 8 immigration mission continues unabated here in Minneapolis despite yesterday’s tragedy,” Bovino said. ...read more read less
