Crews clearing roadways, City offices closed Monday

City crews, working alongside staff from Water Quality and contractors, are actively clearing roadways, focusing on keeping major routes passable per the City’s snow plan. Residents are urged not to park along streets and major roads to allow crews to clear routes effectively.
City offices for em
ployees not involved in winter weather response will be closed on Monday, January 26. City waste collection is canceled for Monday, and a makeup date will be announced soon. Due to cold conditions continuing throughout the week, decisions on city waste collection service will be announced each day.
Between 5 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, the Lexington Police Department responded to six non-injury collisions, one injury collision, 24 traffic hazards, and 139 calls for motorist assistance. Drivers are asked to travel only if necessary. Roadways, especially bridges and overpasses, can be hazardous in the snow and ice.
The Office of Homelessness Prevention Intervention Emergency Weather Plan remains in effect through the morning of Monday, Jan. 26. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. The Emergency Weather Plan and a list of shelters are available at lexingtonky.gov/homelessness-prevention-and-intervention. Residents who see someone who may need shelter should call the Lexington Police Department non-emergency number at (859) 258-3600.
