The snow will stop falling in New York on Monday, but freezing-cold temperatures are expected to remain throughout the week, according to forecasters. Temperatures will peak around 31 degrees Monday, allowing Sunday’s snow to remain on the ground, National Weather Service meteorologists predicted. “Any precipitation on Monday will be light, and the trends have been for lower probabilities,” NWS meteorologists warned Sunday afternoon. “Another shot of Arctic air will follow the winter storm late Monday, continuing an extended period of well below normal temperatures.” Monday afternoon projects to be the warmest time of the week. By Tuesday night, the low temperature will be 5 degrees in Central Park, forecasters said. From Wednesday through Saturday, the daily high temperature is expected to only reach between 19 and 23 degrees. Temperatures will be lower for much of the week. The system continued operating through Sunday’s storm, though with delays and few, if any, express lines. “Things have been running smoothly. There are delays, there are adjustments to service, but all subway lines, ladies and gentlemen, are operating,” MTA Chairman Janno Lieber told WCBS. Not everything was set to run so smoothly on Monday. The Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road will run on a Sunday schedule to open the work week, the MTA said. NJ Transit, which suspended service Sunday afternoon, had not yet made a decision on Monday’s plan. (Barry Williams/ New York Daily News) The coldest day this week is expected to be Friday, as temperatures will drop to 6 degrees in Central Park on Thursday night and only reach 19 degrees during the following day. “Wind chills each night through Saturday night will be near or below zero,” NWS meteorologists wrote. “Cold weather advisories could eventually be needed particularly for Tuesday night and Thursday night.” Temperatures are not expecting to rise above freezing all week, according to the NWS.
