Winter storm warning in effect, Residents urged to stay off roads
Jan 25, 2026
City crews are working alongside contractors clearing roads per the City’s snow plan. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Lexington until 7 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26. Snow, freezing rain, and sleet are in the forecast. Residents should stay off the roads and only travel for emergencies. If you mus
t travel, bring food, water, a flashlight, warm clothes, and extra blankets. Also, drive cautiously and allow extra time to reach your destination.
Mayor Gorton has declared a State of Emergency, fully activating the city’s Emergency Operations Center and placing public safety divisions on 24-hour schedules through Tuesday morning. The snow emergency declaration bans parking on snow emergency routes. These routes are major streets through the city and are marked by signage. Residents are urged not to park along streets and major roads to allow crews to clear routes effectively.
Between midnight and 5 a.m. this afternoon, the Lexington Police Department responded to four traffic hazards and 12 calls for motorist assistance. Drivers are reminded that some roadways could be slick and to be especially careful on bridges and overpasses, as these are typically the first surfaces to become slippery.
LexCall is open for extended weekend hours for non-emergency issues from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. today, Jan. 25. Customer Service Specialists are available to take weather-related reports and provide helpful information.
