Richmond opens emergency shelter ahead of winter storm

RICHMOND, Va (WRIC) -- The City of Richmond has announced it will be opening its emergency shelter ahead of the winter storm this evening.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, the City of Richmond shared that ahead of the winter storm, it will open its city emergency center at Southside Community Center, located
at 6255 Old Warwick Road, at 5 p.m.
The shelter will be open to anyone and their families throughout the duration of the winter storm, according to the statement.
The Main Library, located at 101 E. Franklin Street, will also be open until 5 p.m. as a central heating center.
Residents with pets who are going to the city's emergency shelter should contact Richmond Animal Care and Control at (804) 646-5573 for temporary housing for their pet. Since space will be limited, it can be available by appointment.
Service animals are always allowed into city emergency shelters with their owner.
