Trenton asks for residents cooperation in dealing with winter storm: ‘move your car now’
Jan 24, 2026
The City of Trenton held a press conference Saturday afternoon to discuss precautions the city is taking and to ask residents to help out where they can.
One of the main priorities Mayor Reed Gusciora talked about was clearing the roads so public works could more effectively clear the snow and ice.
Both Gusciora and Emergency Management Coordinator Grady Griffin spoke about parking cars in city and school lots before the snow and ice begin to make sure plows and crews are able to keep the streets clear to the best of their abilities.
Gusciora said the city has arranged with the county for free parking at both the CURE Insurance arena parking lot and the Trenton Thunder’s indoor garage.
Griffin said the Trenton area is predicted to get 14-18 inches of snow, though the city is preparing for 25 inches of snow so they are prepared for the worst-case scenario.
“Stay safe. Stay where you can stay secure,” Griffin said. “Shelter in place if you have to. If you lose power, one of the emphasises is, please do not bring generators into your home. It can potentially harm you and harm your family members. Carbon monoxide is a bad thing and we don’t want to have a silent incident during this. We want to get through it, we want to be safe.”
Gusciora said the city has warming centers open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., but he stressed that no one would be just put out into the storm when the centers are scheduled to close. City representatives will be helping to get people into shelters and safely into housing when possible.
Trenton’s warming centers are the Sam Naples Center, 611 Chestnut Avenue, and the Jennye Stubblefield Senior Center, 301 Prospect Street.
The Office of Emergency Management’s emergency number is 609-989-4200 and taking calls for problems throughout the city. Griffin said to still use 911 for medical emergencies and power outages should be reported directly to PSEG.
The city will be using www.trentonnj.org/snow for all updates on storm-related issues.
Fire Director Ken Douglas asked for every citizen to take care and stay inside unless absolutely necessary.
Douglas said to make sure all safety equipment is up to date, batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working and extinguishers are charged.
