INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — President Donald Trump has approved an emergency declaration for Indiana, among other states.
An emergency declaration is an official action by a government leader that formally recognizes a crisis, such as a natural disaster and/or public health threat, and authorizes
the immediate use of specialized powers and resources.
On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump posted the following message Saturday:
“I have just approved Emergency Declarations for Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Indiana, and West Virginia. We are working closely with FEMA, Governors, and State Emergency Management teams to ensure the safety of everybody. Stay Safe, and Stay Warm!”
Donald Trump, president of the United States.
Hours after Trump’s post, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun posted the following messages on his social media accounts:
“I’ve requested and received approval for an emergency declaration for all of Indiana.
An emergency response declaration is necessary to address ongoing and future response efforts to this dangerous storm and to protect Hoosiers’ lives as conditions worsen.
Thank you, President Donald J. Trump for your support and approval of this important declaration!!”
“In addition to the federal emergency response declaration, I have signed an executive order declaring a state of emergency in Indiana and directing the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to coordinate all of the state’s emergency response efforts, as well as ordering all executive branch agencies to provide any and all assistance and resources requested by IDHS.“
