Snow, sleet predictions change again for weekend storm in southeastern PA, NJ

Early Saturday morning the National Weather Service walked back its snow predictions slightly for the storm that will hit southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey early Sunday.
“Snowfall amounts reduced slightly, with highest reductions south and east of the I-95 corridor as confidence increases i
n mixing occurring,” a 5 a.m. NWS briefing stated. “Impacts are unchanged as the combination of snow/sleet/freezing rain will bring major disruptions to the area.”
Estimated accumulations of snow and sleet range from 4 to 8 inches in southern zones in the region to 12 to 16 inches in northern zones the NWS Mount Holly, N.J. office reported.

Snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour are likely during the day Sunday.
The NWS report says there is a threat of ice accumulation of .1 to .25 of an inch in the southern portion of the region, which, combine with the heavy snow, could result in downed trees and power outages.

The winter storm warning remains in effect for the Philadelphia region from Saturday night into Monday morning. An extreme cold warning was added for the southern Poconos with wind chills of -20 degrees expected throughout the morning. A cold weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. for the rest of the area.
AccuWeather says more than two dozen states will be impacted by significant freezing rain, ice, snow and dangerous cold. Their meteorologists say “it is rare for a storm to combine this much snow, ice and bitter cold over such a large area – a widespread travel-halting winter storm will stall daily life for days.”
PA road restrictions
The following vehicle restrictions go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25 in accordance with Tier 4 of the commonwealth’s weather event vehicle restriction plan, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation , aka PennDOT, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission, PA Turnpike, announced Friday.
On all Pennsylvania interstates including: PA Turnpike I-76, PA Turnpike I-70, all PA Turnpike extensions, US 15 from I-180 to the New York border, US 22 from Route 66 to I-99, US 22 from I-78 to the New Jersey border, US 219 from US 30 to US 22, US 220 from I-80 to I-180, US 322 from Interstate 99 to I-81, Route 28 from I-279 to US 422, the entire length of Route 33.
Tier 4 restrictions mean no commercial vehicles are permitted. Also, all school buses, commercial buses, motor coaches, motorcycles, RVs/motorhomes and passenger vehicles (cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers are not permitted on affected roadways while restrictions are in place.
