CAPK Head Start brought fathers and father figures together for a unique event. Focused on family and connection, the conference highlighted the important role dads play at home and in the community.Im here to obtain more knowle dge, learn to be a better father, and you know you can never have too much knowledge, said Parent Lovejot Bassi.A total of 217 registered for the 3rd annual Fatherhood Conference ran by CAPK Head Start, and like parent Lovejot Bassi, the idea behind the event was to simply gain knowledge.Attendees had the chance to meet other dads, take part in breakout sessions, and access resources through local vendors designed to help strengthen families and communities.Assistant director for Head Start State Child Development for CapK Jerry Meade says events like these are critical as fathers are typically seen as the head of the household.A father is love like a mother is love but a father is also leadership and stability, its giving an opportunity to be that role model, said Meade.Along with this, fathers were also able to hear from speakers and participate in giveaways.Among those speakers was Angel Perez, sharing his belief that fathers dont need to be perfect, just present.We need our dads to show up and not just show up but really dedicate the time to our children. Fathers are able to push them beyond their limits, you know were able to teach them how to take risks, said Perez.Organizers say they wanted to create a safe space for fathers, to be able to ask questions and learn without a feeling of judgement.Dont be shy, as a man you know I understand as men were prideful but put that to the side when it comes to the kids and if you have any questions you know feel free to ask, said Bassi.Organizers say the conference may be one day, but resources for families are available all year.
