Mayor declares State of Emergency ahead of winter storm
Jan 23, 2026
Mayor Linda Gorton today declared a State of Emergency ahead of a significant winter storm, allowing the City to mobilize personnel and resources as potentially hazardous weather moves into the Bluegrass.
“This emergency declaration will allow us to take the necessary steps to help our resident
s handle the weather we are expecting,” Gorton said. Gorton said the State of Emergency will fully activate the city’s Emergency Operations Center, and place its public safety divisions on 24-hour schedules through Tuesday morning.
At this stage, the snow emergency declaration bans parking on snow emergency routes, Gorton said. Snow emergency routes are major streets through the city and are marked by signage.
“If residents do not park along Snow Emergency Routes, our street crews will be able to clear roads more effectively, and our first responders will be able to respond more safely,” Gorton said.
