According to a message posted by Donald Trump on his social media platform, the US president has withdrawn an invitation previously extended to Canada to join his newly announced “Board of Peace.” The post, written in the form of a letter and shared while Trump was traveling aboard Air Force One
, was addressed directly to Canada’s prime minister, Mark Carney.
Trump unveiled the board earlier this week at the World Economic Forum, describing it as an international body focused on global stability and post-conflict reconstruction, including oversight related to Gaza. While several democratic governments declined to participate, Carney had said Canada was open to the idea in principle, pending clarification on governance and funding.
That position shifted after Canadian officials confirmed the country would not contribute the reported $1 billion fee tied to permanent membership. The dispute intensified after Carney publicly criticized what he described as a breakdown in the US-led rules-based global order.
