PINOLE, Calif. (KRON) -- All lanes of westbound Interstate 80 near Hercules remain blocked Thursday as a law enforcement investigation is underway. The closure stems from an incident that occurred just after 7 a.m. All lanes of westbound traffic are shut down just west of Highway 4. Traffic is bein g diverted off at the Hercules exit. The far left lane of eastbound I-80 was also closed to traffic before reopening shortly after 10 a.m. (KRON4) A report logged by the CHP at 7:21 a.m. said there was a person on the freeway hitting vehicles with a metal object. A coroner was later called to respond to the scene. The CHP declined to provide further information on the incident and deferred all comments to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office. The Hercules Police Department said at 8:34 a.m. it was not involved in the incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the community. (Caltrans) (Caltrans) Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes to avoid the area. CHP recommended taking eastbound I-780 to southbound I-680 to westbound Highway 24.
