Footage obtained by the NY Daily News shows a teen suspect’s short-lived escape attempt from a Brooklyn police stationhouse. The suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was handcuffed to a bench at the NYPD’s 78th Precinct, on Sixth Ave. near Bergen St. in Prospect Heights, when he managed to slip off his h andcuffs around 11:42 a.m. Friday, cops said. Surveillance cameras recorded the suspect as he crawled on hands and knees through a side door into the precinct’s lobby, then while crouching and keeping his head low, snuck past the reception desk and toward the exit. The footage ends as the officer glances back toward the bench where the suspect was supposed to be handcuffed, before giving chase, with two other officers quickly darting out from behind the reception desk to join her. The escape attempt ended roughly two blocks away at Sixth Ave. and St. Marks Ave., where police apprehended the suspect, cops said. A police spokesman could not immediately say why the suspect was being detained, but noted he has been charged in the escape attempt. His name is being withheld due to his age. ...read more read less
