Police are investigating, officials said, after a man’s body was found at the Brith Sholom House, a Philadelphia Housing Authority complex that is slated for a multi-million dollar renovation project in West Philadelphia, early Wednesday. According to police, the man was found unresponsive at the complex along the 3900 block of Conshohocken Avenue at about 5:43 a.m. First responders pronounced the man at the scene at about 6:40 a.m., officials said. However, police said the man’s body showed no signs of gunshot or stab wounds. Also, NBC10’s cameras at the scene captured images of a PECO worker being led into the complex by Philadelphia police officers. Contacted Wednesday, PECO officials said the facility is “not a PECO facility,” but the utility provider was contacted by police in order to “de-energize the building to make it safe.” Previous residents of that structure have moved out after previous owners allowed unsafe living conditions to arise following years of neglect. The Philadelphia Housing Authority acquired the West Philadelphia housing complex for $24 million in 2024. Just yesterday, city leaders announced plans for a $50 million renovation of the buildings and bringing 340-plus units of senior housing back to the Wynnefield Heights neighborhood. Police did not immediately provide further information on the man’s identity or say if any foul play was suspected in this man’s death.
