End of an Era: San Francisco Centre set to officially close next week
Jan 20, 2026
SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- San Francisco Centre, formerly known as the Westfield Mall, is in its final days. The once-flagship mall of the Bay Area is closing this upcoming Monday.
The massive, nearly empty mall is far from its glory days. First as the Emporium, then Westfield Mall and most recently,
San Francisco Centre, the longtime shopping destination for locals and tourists alike has had many lives.
"My heart was really, really sad when I saw you was leaving. Just really physically hurt. So many, many happy memories and have loved this store," said former mall customer Liz Ann Keys.
For months, stores have been closing.

Now, one shoe store is all that remains as customers from every generation say goodbye.
"We used to go see Santa. We used to do all kinds of things in Emporium," Keys said. "Constantly eat here, shop here. And when Carmela. My daughter was a baby, or she was little, we lived here, and we, my sister and I, used to shop in the basement where the discounts were. So I used to get all my clothes, my shoes. I have so many happy memories of the beautiful storefront."
"I get really sad thinking that nobody comes here anymore," said another former customer Ashley Fumore. "My friends and I would always just come here and meet up. We, like, go in there just window shopping. Oh, yeah. This is just my memory of it. And everybody from high school is always here.”
"When my kids were small. We would come down here, and I would put them in the stroller and just walk them all," said former mall shopper Carmella West. "And I remember when Westfield opened and being so excited about it, daunting to see so many places closed. But I want to be hopeful that something beautiful will rise up."
No further details about the property have been released. KRON4 reached out to JLL Management Group but did not hear back.
