Park City parking is at a premium during Sundance, and it carries a premium price
Jan 20, 2026
Parking will be at a premium in the Main Street core during the Sundance Film Festival.
And it will carry a premium price.
City Hall controls some of the parking most convenient to Main Street and the municipal government will significantly increase prices during the opening days of Sundance.
The higher prices are seen as having the potential to nudge some drivers onto buses and, as a result, reduce traffic in the Old Town core.
The key location for the public is the China Bridge garage, one block off Main Street. Drivers must enter the garage from Marsac Avenue and they cannot leave and return without paying again.
The flat-fee prices during the first six days of Sundance:
$40 on Thursday
$50 on Friday and Saturday
$30 on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday
Standard rates return for the final days of the festival, from Jan. 28 until Feb. 1.
China Bridge is especially important for drivers wanting to park close to Main Street during Sundance since other municipal spots are temporarily closed. There are numerous parking restrictions, including at the Bob Wells Plaza on Swede Alley, other spots on Swede Alley, the flagpole lot and the lot on the north side of the Marsac Building. Parking on Main Street itself will also be restricted.
There are also privately held garages in the Main Street core that are available to the public. The Park City Community Guide, published by City Hall in anticipation of Sundance, notes that those garages vary in cost and could range from $20 to more than $100 per day.
Parking on neighborhood streets surrounding Main Street requires a residential permit.
There are free-parking options available outside the Main Street core.
The free park-and-ride lot at Richardson Flat, along the S.R. 248 entryway, is available to Sundance-goers. Free buses will run between the lot and the Old Town transit center starting at 6:40 a.m. and ending at 2 a.m. from Thursday until Jan. 30. The buses will run at 15-minute intervals.
The Community Guide also addresses parking for those holding several categories of permits. The publication says: “During the Festival, Carpool, Business, and Employee Permit holders may park in the Flagpole Lot, Gateway Center, or in the North Marsac Lot. Parking in these lots are first come, first-served until 11:00 a.m. Employees will not be able to access Flagpole and Gateway Lots from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 a.m.”
Parking will be available at the Snow Park base of Deer Valley Resort after the ski day. Festival-goers will be allowed to park in Lot 5 and Lot 6 from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. from Thursday until Feb. 1. Parking at the Park City-side base of Park City Mountain will be available after the ski day, from 5 p.m. until 1 a.m. from Thursday until Feb. 1. Someone parking at the resort bases may take buses from those locations.
The municipal government cautions that vehicles that are left in the Deer Valley or Park City Mountain lots beyond 1 a.m. are subject to towing at the owner’s expense.
Parking has long been difficult during Sundance, particularly across the opening days of the festival. The Park City Police Department regularly receives parking-related complaints during Sundance in Old Town and in areas that are close to screening rooms and other venues. Commercial properties with large lots have, for years, attempted to protect their spaces from festival crowds through signs and the possibility of tows.
