The Natural Crown blends expertise with soothing spa experience
A new natural hair care salon in Colorado Springs is helping people look and feel their best, starting at the root.
The Natural Crown, a luxury natural hair and scalp care salon and product brand, blends owner and founder Kameka L
ewis’ 17-plus years of cosmetology expertise with a soothing spa experience where “every service is intentionally crafted to support scalp health, promote hair growth and enhance the natural beauty of each crown,” the website states.
Lewis offers a range of services including haircuts, extension prep or removal, loc care and maintenance, and natural hair services from two-strand twists to silk press and others. She also offers consultations, one-on-one care sessions to give clients individualized guidance and coaching to help improve their hair care routines outside the salon, and a variety of head spa experiences that can exfoliate, repair and rejuvenate the hair and scalp in a relaxed environment.
“Definitely this is a safe space,” she said from her salon with views of Pikes Peak, located inside Annie’s Aesthetics Wellness Lounge at 2130 S. Academy Blvd., Suite 200. “I want you (the client) to be able to come in and say, ‘I know I can go here (and) I can get the services that I’m looking for, or at least the knowledge that I need to care for my own hair.’ … I want you to leave with that confidence knowing, ‘OK. I can do this … these are the options that I have.’ And just being a little more confident in wearing your natural hair.”
Lewis also offers her brand of natural hair care products manufactured in the U.S. She began The Natural Crown product line a few years ago, including shampoos, conditioners, moisturizing mist, oils and hair creams that focus on scalp care and hair hydration. Aligning with her mission to be intentional about the ingredients she is using on her own hair and her clients’, Lewis’ products are free of harsh chemicals, sulfates and parabens that can strip the hair of natural oils and leave it feeling dry.

“I’m very big on teaching and educating about what your hair type is, what products to use for your hair type … and I like being able to help people do that,” she said.
Lewis noted that hair is a big part of someone’s personal expression and identity.
“I actually have a scripture on my products from the Bible about how your hair is your glory. It is that. It’s our identity. We wake up and whether it’s long hair, short hair, curly hair, it’s our expression,” Lewis said. “I have my services here that I’m offering, but I want to extend my knowledge and my passion for hair into every community, into every household. So that’s where the hair products come in. I was like, ‘Well, how can I help everybody if I can’t be everywhere?’ My products can do that.”
Lewis, who moved to Colorado Springs from Charlotte, N.C., about a year and a half ago, recently opened her salon inside Annie’s Aesthetics Wellness Lounge, a space intentionally designed to offer a range of services including facials, eyelash and eyebrow services, waxing, red light therapy and more.
Guests are welcomed into a quiet waiting area filled with plush couches, soft décor and calming music. Services are completed in private rooms throughout the lounge.
Annie Fodge and her colleague Celeste Calderon, licensed aestheticians, launched Annie’s Aesthetics about a year ago, she said. The wellness suite was a new way Fodge could continue helping people feel their best — she has 15 years of experience in the medical field, including 12 specializing in orthopedics — while also supporting other women entrepreneurs.
Fodge’s daughter, Gwen Johnson, also a licensed aesthetician, operates her business, Geespot Aesthetics, out of the suite right across the hall.
“I just really wanted to create a welcoming, soothing space where people could relax and rejuvenate, get away for a little bit,” Fodge said.
Annie’s Aesthetics Wellness Lounge and The Natural Crown are having a grand opening celebration from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at 2130 S. Academy Blvd., Suites 200, 201 and 205. The event will include raffles, signature drinks, event only offers and more.
