MIAMI, Fla. (WISH) — The Indiana Hoosiers are college football national champions for the first time in program history.
The Hoosiers defeated the Miami Hurricanes 27-21.

y was sealed when IU’s Jamari Sharpe intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter from Miami quarterback Carson Beck.
The play of the game came in the fourth quarter as Indiana’s Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Fernando Mendoza fought his way into the end zone on 4th down. The 12-yard score gave the Hoosiers a 10-point lead with 9:18 on the clock.
Mendoza completed 16 of 27 passes for 186 yards and one 12-yard rushing touchdown.
Indiana led 10-0 at halftime after tight end Riley Nowakowski scored the first touchdown of the game with a 1-yard run in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, the IU defense successfully shut out Miami quarterback Carson Beck and the Canes offense in the first half. Miami had a 50-yard field goal chance with :33 left in the first half, but Canes kicker Carter Davis hit the right upright, leaving the score 10-0.
